Google has just updated their PageRank algorithm which means many websites' PageRank could possibly change. This is very good news for websites that increased in PageRank but bad for websites that decreased. Google updated their algorithm for New Years…but trying to keep track of when Google updates their algorithms is impossible since they do it sporadically.
Many of you will notice the little green bar at the top of your Google Toolbar has moved either to the left or to the right (if you have Google Toolbar installed and the PageRank enabled; if not, go here: http://toolbar.google.com. I just checked three of our landing pages that were created within the past couple months and ranked 0 yesterday are now all 2 today: top SEO placement, radio streaming services, free website traffic report. However, a couple pages on our main website have decreased.
I’ve noticed in the past Google was updating their PageRank algorithm when some of our main site’s webpages dropped to not even being ranked. Then the next day or the next week they were back to where they originally were - very strange. It seems as if Google was probably trying to test and tweak their algorithm.
Google’s PageRank is based on the amount of links pointing to your website factoring in the quality of those pages linking to you. If the page that’s linking to you has a high PageRank it can increase your PageRank. However if you have very low ranked webpages linking to your page it can decrease your PageRank somewhat. Increasing PageRank is easier than decreasing.

December 29, 2008 Posted by SSI at Monday, December 29, 2008 0 commentsOften times customers want to optimize their website, but don't know how or where to start. Creating meta tags is a good starting point for any website. This is a common question we are asked when referring to search engine optimization.
Meta tags are small pieces of code that are placed into your website’s HTML file that give the search engines a topic on what that specific webpage is about. Meta tags have three parts: title tag, description tag, and keyword tag. Each webpage has one title tag, one description tag, and one keyword tag. Creating a website with well-structured meta tags can be beneficial to search engine rankings.
Title tags appear at the top of the internet browser as the title of the webpage. Title tags will also appear in the search engine listing as the text that links to the webpage.
Description tags are only visible to a user through the search engine listing. It is usually the brief description of the webpage right underneath the text link to the webpage.
Keyword tags are not visible to a user, only visible to search engines. When search engines crawl a website, they can pick up on the list of keywords.
Meta tags are always a good foundation for any online marketing work in the making. Basing your SEO efforts on well-structured meta tags can make all the difference in search engine rankings. When will my website be listed in the search engines?
December 22, 2008 Posted by SSI at Monday, December 22, 2008 0 commentsEvery now and then we will be posting frequently asked questions regarding online marketing with answers that can help clear up any confusion people might have. The question below arises out of the need of users to know when their newly created and designed websites would be listed in the search engines.
When will my website be listed in the search engines?
All search engines have different policies when it comes to adding websites to their indexes. Some search engines allow you to manually submit a request for inclusion, while others require you to wait until their “spiders” have “crawled” your website.
If you have a completely new website and would like to be included in Google’s or Yahoo!’s index without waiting for their spiders to crawl your website, you can visit these links, http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl / http://search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html, and manually add it yourself. However, there are sometimes long waiting periods until you are finally listed…it could take anywhere from 4-6 weeks until Google or Yahoo! updates their index with your search listing. There is also no guarantee that your website will get listed.
